Road to Kathmandu

We headed off to our final destination, Kathmandu, driving through the most fascinating countryside. There were incredibly steep mountainsides covered in thick jungle or terraced into rice paddies. There were sheer drops down hundreds of metres from the road to the river bed below. There were massive mountains in the distance, covered in snow. The photos do not do justice to the scenery. But this is not a road for the faint-hearted, as there were many times when there were no more than a few centimetres of dirt between the vehicle wheels and calamitous drops to certain death. We saw several examples of buses down ravines and lying upside-down in rover beds. Sometimes it’s best just to look the other way.
